Long continuous footage beats short ends — 10,000 ft on one reel quotes tighter than four short ends totaling the same. Armored and scarce jackets price above the line.
Standard construction is 8 buffer tubes of 12 fibers around a central strength member — gel-free in current product like Corning ALTOS, gel-filled on older reels. The surplus market is almost all singlemode G.652D, which splices to anything built in the last twenty years. Date codes matter less than sellers fear: glass doesn’t age in the tube.
Three constructions show up surplus: all-dielectric for duct and lashed aerial, single steel-tape armor for direct bury and rodent country, and ADSS for pole spans without strand. The jacket print states which — part number, count, and sequential footage marks. End mark minus start mark is the true footage, tag or no tag.
96 is the distribution count: FTTH distribution legs, school and campus laterals, small middle-mile spurs. Contractors order it constantly and over-order it constantly — which is why it’s rarely scarce, and why surplus pricing holds well under distributor numbers.
Footage and ZIP — that’s all we need to start. One number for the package, freight as one line, ships from the reel’s location in 2–3 days.
